Project description:
For years ago, in the Kolob Association of children with autism in Tacna (Peru) the ARASAAC pictograms have been used in the elaboration of adapted materials and in the signage of all spaces.
The objective of this great work is toimprove the functional communication of all children both in the center, in the family and in the environment, as well as to improve and awareness about cognitive accessibility in all the spaces where they usually operate.
As its director Mauricio Kolob tells us, “the pictograms are a non-negotiable present in the development of therapeutic and pedagogical activities, walks, trainings, conferences, …“.
The Kolob Association of children with autism uses them in all the activities it carries out, having marked “a before and after” in the augmentative and alternative communication of people with Autism throughout southern Peru, and being pioneers in their use and in the broadcast in the last two years.
The Kolob Association of children with autism has given more than 100 trainings, workshops and courses at a national and international level, showing in all of them the existence and use of the pictograms and other tools offered by ARASAAC, extending their use in many places in Peru. In particular, the EL SHADDAI Regular School, which has an agreement established with the association to work hand in hand in caring for people with autism.
En la actualidad, la EL SHADDAI Regular School is the only regular school in southern Peru that serves children with autism in all their grades and classrooms, where pictograms are used as part of its active methodology, this activity having become one of the reasons that has allowed That this year the school receives the “Escuela Valora” Award from the Ministry of Education of Peru as an “Inclusive School”.
In 2016, ARASAAC coordinators had the opportunity to give several courses in different cities of Peru, thanks to Abai Peru and the Kolob Association of children with autism , being able to verify in situ the fantastic work they do in the association, surpassing all the difficulties encountered along the way with great professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication to fight for the right to communication and the inclusion of their children in the daily life of their country.
